Jonathan “Cody” Hunt is a native of Greensboro, N.C. He is the youngest of four siblings born to Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Mamie Hunt. Following graduation from Dudley Sr. High School in 1986, Cody joined the Army National Guard. While honorably serving for a total of eight years, he obtained the rank of sergeant. In 1989, he joined the Greensboro Fire Department. While serving as a firefighter, he later earned his EMT certification. With his strong compassion for humanity and a strong commitment for public safety, he enrolled at Guilford Technical Community College to major in Criminal Justice. In 1994, he joined the Raleigh Police Department. Though he began his career as a patrol officer, he has served in a number of capacities with each experience allowing him to further develop in his career. Cody believes his greatest reward in each assignment has been the realization of what he considers as having answered his calling. To whom much is given, much is expected. Each assignment has come with greater authority and responsibility. Currently, Sergeant Cody Hunt is currently a candidate for the rank of lieutenant. One of his most memorable experiences was to have the opportunity to serve as part of the security team during the Democratic National Convention for the President of the United States, Barack Obama. As an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, he serves on various committees. Cody is also an active member of Alpha Chi Honor Society and the Raleigh Police Club. His membership with each of these organizations has afforded him tremendous opportunities to volunteer extensively in the areas of mentoring, scholarship and community support. His commitment to the community has led him to serve as mentor through Omega Champs and to the youth in the Chavis Heights Community; to Adopt-a-Highway; to participate in Special Olympics and the Raleigh Police Mentoring Baseball League. Cody not only believes in giving back to the community but he has committed his time, resources and talents to include his culinary skills to giving back to his Alma Mater, Shaw University. As an active alumnus, Cody eagerly assisted with cleanup at Shaw University after the tornado devastated the campus in 2011 and currently, he mentors a criminal justice student at Shaw University. Additionally, Cody is an active member of the Raleigh-Wake Alumni Association, the Shaw University Booster Club and the National Alumni Association. A family man and active member of Wake Chapel Church, Cody has been married to his adoring wife, Kimberly for 21 years. He is a proud father of four children- Selina, Dominique, Cody and Taylor and is affectionately known as Paw Paw Cody to their two grandchildren, Kendall and Aiden. He attributes his success in his personal and professional life to his loving family and his education at Shaw University. |
